Local SEO Case Study: Regional Service Area Business

Project Overview

Local SEO for a Regional Service Area Business

An independent, locally-owned home services provider offered specialized services, such as carpet and floor cleaning, across its main metropolitan area and 14 surrounding towns. Their primary challenge was that their digital presence only ranked effectively in their core, central city due to intense local competition.

The project aimed to establish distinct local authority and generate high-quality leads in all 15 target service areas, enabling the provider to scale its operations across the region.

SEO Approach

Strategy & Execution

The strategy focused on a deep technical restructuring of the website and the development of hyper-local content to ensure the business was recognized as relevant in every town it served, maximizing signals for their Service Area Business (SAB) model.

  • Service Area Business Optimization: Strategically managed the single Google Business Profile (GBP) to precisely define the Service Area Radius, which was previously undefined. We focused on consistent, keyword-rich GBP Posts with location-specific offers to signal local relevance to Google.

  • Technical Architecture for Local Pages: Conducted a Technical Audit using Screaming Frog to define and implement a robust Local Landing Page structure. This replaced the single, generic service page for the whole region with 15 uniquely optimized pages.

  • Hyper-Local Content Development: Developed unique, authoritative content for each of the 15 new location pages. The content incorporated city-specific terms, mentioned local landmarks, and addressed issues unique to that geographic area to resolve a significant Local Content Gap.

  • Keyword & Competitive Mapping: Performed Keyword Research & Mapping to align unique long-tail keywords (e.g., “[Service] near [Neighborhood Name]”) with the content of the new hyper-local pages.

  • Citation & NAP Consistency: Conducted a thorough audit of all existing citations and business listings to ensure 100% NAP (Name, Address, and Phone Number) consistency across all third-party platforms.

Results

The technical and content restructuring delivered exponential growth in local search visibility and lead quality:

  • Local Search Impressions: Achieved a 250% increase in impressions for non-branded, geo-specific search terms within the target towns.

  • Local Pack Ranking: Secured rankings for 15 new keywords (one per target town) in the highly coveted Google Local 3-Pack.

  • Lead Conversion: Generated a 5x increase in qualified lead volume originating directly from the Google Business Profile and local landing pages compared to the prior period.

  • Regional Dominance: Successfully expanded the provider’s perceived service area, reducing reliance on the highly competitive main city market.

Challenges & Solutions

SEO success chart

Challenge: Convincing Google of relevance in 14 Service Area towns without a physical office in each. The initial attempt to force irrelevant addresses led to confusion.

Solution: We strictly adhered to Google’s Service Area Business guidelines, removing physical addresses from the GBP and relying entirely on the meticulously structured local landing pages and consistent, high-quality Local Citations to build trust and authority in each specific zone.

Future Opportunities

While the provider now dominates its regional market, ongoing efforts can further cement its authority:

  • Review Strategy Expansion: Implement a system to solicit and manage location-specific Reviews on the GBP and other directories to build trust in each local market.

  • Localized Video Content: Develop short, helpful, localized video content (e.g., “Cleaning Tips for [Specific Town’s] Climate”) and embed it on the respective landing pages to boost engagement and E-E-A-T.
